A master salesman understands the selling system and executes to put the buyer in possesion of the system/product through a masterful presentation.
The master salesmen, that I have come across, have taken on their craft as both a science and an art.
They are confident in their sales ability (even if they are not always confident in many other areas of life).
I find that they have an innate understanding of how their buyer is feeling and can make microadjustments in their delivery for greatest impact.
